We've all heard that America is built on debt, but what does that really mean? Were you taught that having debt was a "bad" thing? It's ok, whoever told you that wasn't wrong or right, they were either sharing what they had been told or what their lifetime experiences had taught them. Everyone's relationship with debt may be different. When it comes to your personal relationship with debt, chances are you may fit into one of two categories.
The first group is usually comprised of folks who stay as far away from debt as possible. They may have had a bad experience with a credit card when they were younger or may have observed a friend or family member get trapped in a negative debt cycle. Without the proper planning and approach, being in debt can feel like uncontrolled and scary.
The second group has a completely different perspective on debt. In fact, they may have a lot more of it than the first group would ever fathom. Chances are they are business owners or operate a side hustle that requires them to hold inventory, payroll or sub out services in order to stay afloat until their next big check arrives to wipe out the bill.
Neither one of these groups is wrong in their approach to debt because they are both doing what makes sense to them. However, when it comes to buying things like cars, houses and other assets, most likely they are not positioned to make those purchases with cash alone. What if it was possible to take a loan from themselves, pay themselves interest, and have the loan pay itself off if they happened to get so sick they could no longer work work or even worse they die.
Your banker will never shown you how to leverage debt to buy necessities and assets the way we teach it because they wouldn't be able to charge you any fees or interest. They would rather keep charging you to depend on them for all of your major purchases.

Now I teach others.
Unfortunately, my Father passed away over a decade ago which was way before his time. Even in death, he thought of his family first and fulfilled his goals: paying off our family homestead, settling all of his debts including vehicles and credits cards. He even left behind enough to take care of his final expenses. He is my inspiration for serving your family now.
We Thank God everyday that he was prepared for the worst. Dad lived his life to the fullest, as if every day was his last. I didn't realize it at the time, but he taught me how to plan for the worst, even if it seems unnecessary.
There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of my Father fondly. How completely selfless his decision was to protect my Mother from losing everything; the house, the cars, etc. Everything was taken care of.
We know without question that he loved us more than we could have known at the time. Families you know will be torn apart this year by heart attack, cancer, stroke, overdose, diabetes, or other health issues.
For whomever you love most,
don't wait until it's too late.
